There are hundreds of man-made stone figures called Inukshuks along the stretch of the Ontario Trans Canada Highway we recently traveled.
Inukshuk means "In the image of man." The Inuit people traditionally built Inukshuks in the far north as territorial guides or markers for hunters. The contemporary Inukshuks symbolize "You are on the right path" or "Someone was here" and are meant to welcome visitors to the region or to honor special people and memories.
