The journey of approximately 4,500 miles begins with….a couple of kayaks?

When we left Alaska in June of 2009, I agreed to drive the approximate 82 hours and 4,500 trip across Alaska and Canada to West Point, NY because I was assured it would be “THE last opportunity to travel the Alaska Highway (ALCAN).” We had previously traveled the ALCAN in May of 2004 from Colorado Springs, CO to Fort Richardson, AK. Awesome experience, but not necessarily an experience  you want to have three times. Yet, here we go again.

Some bargaining took place prior to this road trip in order to get me in the car. Among the items I insisted on, annual trips to Hawaii (or any other warm, sunny beach destination) and a couple of kayaks.

Soon after negotiations were finalized, I saw the following picture recently taken be someone on a guided kayaking trip in Alaska.

Negotiations have since been reopened and are ongoing.
